I am driving a 1974 Saab 99GLE (200,000 miles and going strong) and my girlfriend drives a 1977 Saab 99EMS. We both experience uneven braking - The car tends to decellarate (sp?) more at specific points during the rotation of the wheels. This is noticable mostly at low speeds, it feels like your braking in small spurts. This was not noticable on my car until I recently put new radials on the front. Are the tires installed wrong? Any ideas? Is this a serious problem? Dave Labuda decvax!cwruecmp!labuda

Though an out-of-round tire could cause the brake pulsations you refer to, I'd guess it was a warped brake disc. The wheel nuts (or bolts, whichever) were probably tightened by an air wrench when the wheels were put back on the car, and improper torquing of the nuts can warp the brake disc. You can find out if this is the case with a torque wrench, but the discs may still need machining when the nut torque is corrected.
