Netters, I am interested in getting people's comments/input on various email systems operating in NON-PC-based network enviroments under Windows 3.0 (i.e. not Novell, etc). First let me describe my environment. My PC is connected to a Sun network via an ethernet connection and I have PC-NFS (not the latest release [3.5?], but from what I've seen on the net alas even this upgrade won't put PC-NFS fully into the Windows 3.0 environment...:-( ). Anyway, I would like to send/receive email from within windows to/from the Suns as well as through a gateway connected to the Sun disk server. I would like the interface for such a program to be windows-compatible, and ideally it would have (e.g.) asynchronous on-screen notification of incoming mail and allow the use of my normal word processor (WfW) for message composition. Any thoughts? I have heard that Sun has (or will have) an email system that apparently works with PC NFS (I can'tremember the name...), but I suspect that it may run in a DOS window, and wouldn't be a "standard" application (corrections/comments?). I've heard of the DaVinci email system, and have some literature on this product...are there people who have comments on it's operation in similar environments and info on hardware/software requirements? Microsoft just announced a new email product for use under windows, but it's not obvious from their ads (waiting for literature...) what hardware/software would be required for use in an environment like my own. Please respond via email. If there is sufficient interest, I will post a summary to the net. Thanks in advance for any input. Scott Lewis Email: slewis@hound.att.com
