My windows will NOT boot in 386 mode, but instead, shows me th opening screen and then dumps me to dos. I have re-installed it, and it still does this. Even weirder, I HAD it working, it's not a hardware problem (I think!). Here is my CONFIG.SYS ------------------------------------- files = 30 buffers = 30 device=C:\windows\ega.sys device=C:\himem.sys device=C:\WINDOWS\smartdrv.sys 2048 512 ------------------------------------------- I added the ega.sys myself, because I have a VGA and thought it was necessary. With or without it, it still doesn't come up in 386 mode. My system.ini is perfectly normal, as done by setup, except I added the EMMEXCLUDE= .... (whatever I was supposed to exclude. Can anyone help????? Why doesn't it boot in 3867 mode. AAARRRRGGGG!!! -Thanks -Randy . -- ============================================================================= Never, ever attempt to graduate. Randy,
I would recommend that you remove ega.sys, it is not needed and in
fact will create problems for your VGA in hi-res modes.
Second, the himem.sys MUST be the next line after your SHELL line in
your config.sys file.
Third, you must have at least 2 Meg of RAM left after loading TSR's,
RAM disc's, etc.
Fourth, in your system.ini, exclude the range A000-CFFF. This will
stop display memory allocation and I/O conflicts.
Good Luck,

The ega.sys line should always follow the smartdrv.sys line for windows 386
operation if the ega.sys line is needed at all!
