[comp.windows.ms] Help! PostScript Driver Soft Font Limit?

wwitt@adara.intel.com (04/30/91)

Hello everybody,

For a while now I have been running Windows with ATM 1.0 (recently upgraded
to 1.1) and a PostScript printer. I had a few soft fonts installed and
everything worked fine.

Now I just got a new batch of fonts form cica which I installed to try
them out. My problem is that I now have 208 soft fonts installed for my
PostScript printer, and applications refuse to recognize the printer.
The control panel lets me make the printer the default printer, but
programs like WfW and Designer insist that no printer is available.
If I try to configure, for example, WfW for the PostScript printer,
the disk grinds for a while like it should and everything seems to be ok,
but later the "Print..." option on the file menu is not active and no
fonts appear in the font list. Similarly, no matter what I do, Designer
always says that there is no printer installed.

So, does anyone know what's going on here? Is there a limit on the
number of soft fonts that the PostScript driver can handle? (By the
way, I'm using the latest and greatest driver, version 3.4.) If I
comment out all of the fonts that I just installed, things go back to
normal. I haven't had time to experiment to see which font pushes it
over the edge, though. Could the limit be 128?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
