[comp.windows.ms] My little lost VSDLCD.386

tclark@umaxc.weeg.uiowa.edu (Terry Clark) (04/26/91)

I'm having trouble with WIN3 after a system crash. Now when
Windows starts I get an error message after the intro screen saying
that it can not find a file that might be needed for the enhanced
mode, VSDLCD.386 and to run Setup again. The last line of the message
is V802d.386. The system seems to run fine without this file, but I'd
sure like to get this cleared up. The system is a Gateway 2000 ISA bus
33 MHz. '386 with 4 Megs of RAM, and a Diamond Star VGA board.
I have ran Setup, from inside Windows, from DOS, and even removed the
Windows directory and set up from scratch, all to no avail. I can't
find any files by these titles on the Setup disks so direct load does
not seem to be the solution.

      Any suggestions?

      Tnx,

Windows, when run in 386 enhanced mode, uses the file 'system.ini' from which itreads the names of all this bits and pieces it needs for enhanced mode. These
are all under the '386enh' entry. For Windows to be telling you this there
should be a file specified in this directory matching the one Windows claims it
can't find.

You say you deleted the contents of the Windows directory. How did ypou do this?Secondly when you install drivers/programs under windows they sometimes add
their own drivers to this list. If one of these has gone missing you'll need to
install that proggy again.

Did you delete they 'system' directory within windows dir? If not you should do.

Hope thats some help....POst a more detailed note and we may be able to help a
bit more.

Cheers,
	Dan.
