[comp.windows.ms] BCX under Windows

emills@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Evan Mills) (05/03/91)

I know this topic has been exhausted in the past, and let me know if I'm
missing something obvious...

A couple of weeks ago I was successfully running BCX under Windows in
386 Enhanced mode. No problems.
Now (and I WISH I knew what I've done), it just won't work.

My system:
    A 386/33 ALR BusinessVEISA machine with 5Mb RAM, a 100Mb IDE drive,
    Trident SuperVGA, and DOS 4.01.

I've stripped my CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to the bones.
All that is left is my Himem driver.
I've tried both version 2.60 and 2.77 of the Himem driver.

Here's what happens:

o No TKERNEL loaded, 569K RAM free, 4Mb extended --> XMS:
BCX reports 0K extended memory free (XMS has it all)
    o TKERNEL
TKernel takes 88K RAM and all XMS minus 64K, and Windows
refuses to start due to "insufficient extended memory."
    o TKERNEL kilos=1024
BCX reports "cannot overlay BCCX.OVY due to TKERNEL
         already in use."
    o TKERNEL hi=yes kilos=1024
BCX aborts and Windows reports "This application has
violated system integrity. Shut down & reboot."

Like I said, it was working fine before I made some unknowing mistake.
Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!

Well, after reading the BC manual for about the 90th time
I was finally able to read the part that says you can't run
BCX in 386Enh mode. *scratches head* Although, I'm SURE I
got it to work before (before I learned how to read, that
is! ;)

Later,
