[comp.windows.ms] Graph Plotting applications for Windows 3.0

I have recently started using CA-Cricket Graph (from Computer Associates).
I have mixed feelings:

1) The interface is wonderfully intuitive - the program starts any graph by
drawing a "rough" copy, and you refine the various elements of the copy by
clicking on them and redefining them.

2) The graphs generally look very good.

however:

1) The logical move of copying a graph to the clipboard then pasting from the
clipboard into Word for Windows doesn't work. What you get is an image about
the size of a postage stamp in your document.

2) The graph axis labels don't allow super and subscripting, and don't allow
you to mix symbols and normal fonts in the same label. This makes the supplied
symbol font useless, as no-one wants an entire title in symbols, but only wants
to use the occasional symbol in conjunction with the ordinary fonts.

3) The program is supposed to be able to print out the values that you are
graphing (entered by you onto a spreadsheet like array). The program however
crashes on printout.

The program appears to be have been written for Windows 2.0, and even
comes with a run-time version of Windows 2.0. The current version of the
program (1.3) looks like a very minor revision of the original Windows 2.0
program to make it behave as a Windows 3.0 application. I am hoping that
Computer Associates will get their act together and make a version 2.0 of this
program, as it has a lot of promise.

I will shortly purchase a data/graph plotting package for my PC. I need to
handle moderately large data sets and perform regressions, curve fittings etc
to them.

I need to be able to easily import graphs into Word for Windows files.
I think that a Windows 3.0 compatible application is required.

I have tried Fig. P but its memory requirements are exorbidant and it cannot use
the high memory available within Windows 3.0.

Does anybody 'out there' have any experience that they would like to share?

You don't need a windows based graphing program to generate graphs for
WFW. I use GRAPHER fro Golden Software (POB 281, Golden, CO 80402). It
produces 2d graphs in several file formats which can be easily
imported into WFW. As for the software itself, well .. it was
inexpensive. The user interface is rather ugly but the graphs are
quite nice, they are "Engineering/Scientific" rather than "Business"
graphs, comparible to those found in a technical journal.
