[comp.windows.ms] IconEdit help!

ncc1701@itsgw.rpi.edu (Mark O. Chadwick) (05/07/91)

Help! I just downloaded IconEdit from cica the other day. I ran it at work,
on a 20 MHz 386 running DOS 4.01 and Windows 3. It worked great, so I said,
hey, I like this program, I'll take it home and play with it some more.

Alas, on my 33MHz 486 (Gateway) running DOS 4.01 DOS BIOS, 4DOS 3.02a shell,
and Windows 3, it would not let me reload images I edited!

For instance, I create an icon called x.ico. I edit it, and then save it.
So far, so good. But, when I try to load it back, I get an unrecoverable
application error. I can load pre-existing icons in at any time, so
IconEdit must not be saving them correctly. But why does it work on my
machine at work with no problem?

Could the BIOS have anything to do with it? Could 4DOS have anything
to do with it? please, someone out there, help! :-)

E-mail responses are fine. Thank you and have a nice day. :-)

I get application errors too, not while loading, but random ones,
while using IconEdit (PC Magazine utility IKE). I also have a Gateway 2000
machine and 4DOS. I think it must be a problem of IKE itself, for it's
the first windows app that ever caused UAEs on my machine.
