I was just reading my California income tax form, and there is a deduction of up to 55% or $1000 (whichever is smaller) of the cost of converting a vehicle to run on "mostly methanol" ( > 85% ). Does anyone know anything about this? What is the availability of alcohol fuel on the road today? Could I use a higher compression ratio legally? What is the relative cost per mile? Can I remove my catalytic convertor? Can I do the conversion "my way?" I plan to contact the DMV, but would appreciate any replies. I'll be glad to post a summary if that seems appropriate.
