[net.auto] emergency brake freezing

oft@hocsi.UUCP (o.a.faco) (02/11/85)

Hi all, I've got a problem. This past week I've been having trouble with
the freezing up of my emergency brake on my '81 datsun Pick-up truck. I
took it in for servicing and they said they fixed it, but lo and behold, it
froze again last night. Is there anything that can be done about this?
Most importantly, is this going to cause some severe damage to the brakes?
With an automatic, I wouldn't care 'cause I wouldn't need to set the brake,
but this is a 4-speed standard and I use the brake all the time.

Hoping for good news,

I had a similar problem with my Pinto. I found that the real problem
was in the cable sheath. Apparently one should periodically grease the
interface between sheath and cable else moisture gets in there and freezes
up, usually after the brake has been set all night.

If things don't change they will probably remain the same.
