Hello, Here's my problem: Zenith Z-248 w/6Mb extended memory comes up under Win3 in Real mode and no extended memory. While scanning through the active messages in this group I've come across topics concerning himem.sys, smartdrv.sys and ontrack software. Unfortunately, all references were questions and no useful info. I also saw the note about updated .sys files on cica.cica.indiana.edu, but no refs as to what they do/fix. I have no problems on a similar system that has no 120mb HD or 4mb RAM card. I've removed the 4mb card and had no luck. I removed dmdrv.sys from config.sys in an attempt to make the pc think that the bigger drive was not there and also had no luck. I haven't been able to get through to MS tech support due to busy phone lines (suprized??). I sure would appreciate any helpful information and will summarize e-mail responses. Thanks, Mike. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = Mike Collins | "Why would I want to change my = = New Mexico State University | mind? Forgot to mention that WIN3 appears to consume the extended memory. Machine boots, notice a msg from smartdrv indicating 0 extended mem available. Norton SI shows 6656kb extended memory, start windows, notice it came up in real mode w/o extended memory, exit windows, Norton no longer shows any extended memory. Very strange... Thanks again for any information, Mike. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= = Mike Collins | "Why would I want to change my = = New Mexico State University | mind? Put device = c:\himem.sys (assuming himem.sys is in your root directory) in your CONFIG.SYS file. See pages 500-501 and 583-586 in your Windows manual. Chuck -- Charles H. okey doke what processor do you have? Secondly do you have himem.sys installed in config.sys? If your PC comes up in real mode then you don't have access to extended memory anyway. In real mode it's expanded memory Windows wants to see. Try typing 'win /s' and see what happens. That should force standard mode out of Windows and then see if you've got any extended memory. Stick another note on here if you need more help. Regards, Dan.
