[net.auto] V6 Fiero is Here!

Well, it finally arrived Monday and I took delivery yesterday of a new V6
Fiero! So far, I am quite pleased with the car. I think it wants to get
me into trouble, though, because it's always doing at least 10-15 mph above
the speed limit.

The 2.8L V6 does give the Fiero the power that it needs. It may not be
the fastest car, but it's quite sufficient for me, and probably for most
people out there. I haven't pushed the engine (it only has 65 miles on it
now), but it has quite impressive pickup.

The steering is slow, but surprisingly this hasn't bothered my all that
much. I was worried most about the steering, because way back when the
Fiero first came out and I test drove one, it seemed to take forever to
turn a corner. I don't know if Pontiac tightened it up a bit, or if
it's just the SE's smaller wheel, but it feels very reasonable. It isn't
as tight as my late X1/9's steering, but it'll do for now.

Two things that come off right away are the stupid light that tries to tell
me when to shift, and the interlock that insists on having the clutch
pressed in before the car will start. The light is just annoying but I
already ignore it. The clutch interlock is a little more serious. I know
enough to remember to put the car in neutral or to use the clutch to start
the car, and I always considered it a feature to be able to move the car
with the starter in an emergency if the engine won't start.

The car's biggest problem is that it doesn't seem to corner quite right.
Turning a sharp corner at 40-50mph causes the back wheels to hop a bit. The
car doesn't really suffer from it, it just keeps turning and follows the
front wheels, but the rear end just feels unsettling. It is possible that
there is an alignment problem, so a visit to the dealership may cure this,
otherwise I will have to resort to add-ons.

Speaking of add-ons, does anybody have any pointers to suppliers of Fiero
aftermarket parts? I am specifically interested in suspension parts, body
panels, and T-top conversions, but in general I'm interested in all things
Fiero.

Thanks to all, and as always please send mail and if
there's significant response I'll post a summary.
