[comp.windows.ms] Orchid ProII/TL4000 Drivers

ted@gdfwc3 (Ted Barker) (05/15/91)

In an earlier article, which I did not save and cannot find again, January
1991 version of drivers (Win3) for the Orchid ProII/TL4000 were mentioned.

1) DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD (ftp) THEM FROM!?

2) Is there a version that supports 800X600X256 on 512K?

Thanks in advance.

Ted

No, and there will never be one

Strange. I wonder why I have one, then.

It's been on cica for some time, too. tsng4311.zip is the filename, I
believe (these are the January 1991 drivers).

The 800x600x256 drivers require 1024K of memory. They will not work on 512K
cards.	The original poster wants drivers which will use the 800x600x256 mode
of the 512K cards, which these drivers will not do. They use some kind of
extra buffering with video memory, and do not leave enough left over for
256 colors in 800x600 mode.

Ack. This WAS true. This is NO LONGER true. As of revision 3.11 (January
4, 1991), the Tseng Labs 4000 chipset 800x600x256 Windows 3.0 driver now
supports 512K cards. You will notice in the SETUP.INF from that package
that in the [display] section, the line for that driver reads:

vga468	= 6:vga468.drv, "SpeedSTAR (512K)  800x600, 256 colors", ...

Furthermore, I have a 512K card, and the driver works just fine for me.
Maybe it only works on Diamond SpeedSTARs, but I doubt that.

Any questions?
