[net.auto] re new cars

Having been a GM fan for years, I take extreme offense to the childish
remark concerning the auto maker. If you can make a better car, DO IT!!
Until then, keep your third grade remarks off the screens of people
who like to see constructive criticism. By the way, side by side, I'll
take my GM made Chevy truck to your European car down the strip any
day of the week. And I'll spot ya a couple of lengths. So the next time
you fell the need to criticize, be a little more tactfu
Yes, I'll probably take some heat from the Porsche owners, and rightly
so in some cases, but, I don't like my pride and joy being unjustifiably
cut down without a supporting case.

I owned one of those GM made Chevy trucks for a few years. Did work fine.
Did leave a lot of foriegn stuff in the dirt. It also got the *WORST*
gas milage of anything I've ever owned (about 10 mpg) and had a nasty
habit of breaking the bolts that hold the starter on. (about one every
20K miles) This required taking an electric drill and easy out to the
'special case hardened' bolt to get the stub out of the case...
And this had to be done where ever the turkey had decided to squat.

I sold it after 90k miles or so to someone who felt like working on
the valves...

I am now quite happy with my 1980 Honda Civic that gets 3.5 times
the milage, has 140K miles on it *without ever failing to
get me home* and *without major engine work*. (water pump at
120k miles has been it.) Sure, it won't blow away the latest
detroit turbo chicken, but it is the best car I have ever had.

Ah, come on. I have no idea why I should compare a truck with a car
but I'll tell you the suspension on the 1-Ton Chevy ambulance chassis
that we have has been a constant source of problems. We don't go four
wheeling in the thing, although it doesn't get driven fast a lot. Of
course it doesn't have the engine reliability problems that our Ford
has.
