[comp.windows.ms] Can I force my HP laser to A4 size?

matikainen@cc.helsinki.fi (05/30/91)

Does anybody know a command to put into the HP PCL driver section of
WIN.INI that would force the printer to European A4 paper size. Excel
3.0 seems to insist on printing on "letter" size, and I have to press
"Continue" on the printer for each page, to get rid of the LOAD
LETTER display.

I know that similar commands exist, e.g. PRTRESFAC=0 forces PCL
printers to 300 dpi, which is very useful for Excel 3.0 - DeskJet
problems.

This the following is from an engineer who worked on the PCL 5 driver for
Windows 3.0...

"There's an Excel 3.0 bug that prohibits changing paper sizes with the PCL 5
driver. Microsoft is, I believe, implementing a fix, but in the meanwhile,
you can exit Excel, change the paper size from the printer setup via
the control panel, and return to Excel..."

Probably not the answer you wanted hear.
