Anyone here know what the HP NewWave install program is looking for when it checks where Windows is on one's hard disk? It says: Looking for Windows on drive C: ... Looking for Windows on drive D: ... .. Windows not found! My Windows 3.0 is in D:\WINDOWS. The manual kindly tells me that the error message "Windows not found" (or something like that) means that "MS Windows was not found on the drive"! Not that I would have any use for Newwave. However, working for an HP dealer I'd like to know...

Although I am not an official support person for NewWave I am an interal user of the product. I will try to tell you what I know. I believe that the NewWave installation is checking the PATH for the Windows subdirectory. Be sure that Windows is on the DOS PATH. Do you have a full version of Windows or do you have a run-time version of Windows? This might make a difference. Good Luck and Best Regards, Brad Meyer

I believe that the newwave installation is looking for win.com * Kumar "I prefer to be pissed off, than pissed on!" Rangan * * HP Wellington Internet : kumarr@hparc0.aus.hp.com * * New Zealand Compuserve : 76320,532 (not visited often) * * Phone : +64 4 820400 *

Yes, I have the Windows directory on my PATH and I have a file called WIN.COM in the directory (someone else working for HP thought that was what Newwave wants). My Windows is not a runtime version (are there any runtime Win 3.0 versions?). Well, why does the NewWave install program claim that it cannot find Windows on my hard disks then?

Well, here's the good news - newwave install is actually looking for three of the files associated with windows: winhelp.exe, win.com, and system.ini. I bet you don't have a winhelp.exe in your windows directory - who knew? I gathered this by poking around on the first disk of the newwave set with a hacker friend... (wolf@netcom.com)...by poking into the install\labels.txt and looking in the install\newwave.txt files it just looks like these are the first things install looks for. Give that a try, and if that fails, give another call here! Miles
