The referenced posting seems to have it close, but not exactly right.
The way I heard it from Commodore Grace Hopper was that a moth had
gotten caught inside a relay and had been banged to death.  Thereafter
the process of looking for and fixing problems was called "debugging"
and the original moth, stuck into the project's log book with cellophane
tape, is on display in a US Navy museum.
