[comp.windows.ms] "turnkey" operations; Recorder

roise@sumax.seattleu.edu (Linda Roise) (06/08/91)

I'm a new user of Windows 3.0. Actually, I am a new user of DOS-based
machines; I've been running Macs for four years and have acquired a
386sx desktop and an 386sx laptop during the past three months. I am
not allergic to command-line interfaces, as are many Mac users, but I
still feel like a dunce, even running Windows. So this is a very
elementary question, I'm sure.

I want to open Windows to Windows' terminal program, specifically to a
file I've titled [terminal.term], and I want Recorder to be up and
running the macros I've linked to the terminal program.

I guess the silliest of my questions is, does Recorder have to be
started before the macros I've recorded will work? As nearly as I can
interpret the manual, it does, so I can't skip the step of starting
Recorder. This is very different from macros programs I've run on the
Mac or on my old Apple//e, in which, whenever the program I've
assigned macros to is running, the macros are callable automatically
unless toggled off.

Second, is there a way to set Windows to open in a certain
configuration automatically--say to the Terminal program? I'm looking
for a "turnkey" operation that will start Terminal and log me into my
unix site, then start emacs, rmail and gnus.

I will look here for replies, but since this is such basic stuff, you
might want to e-mail me rather than waste other folks' time.

Thanks!
