[comp.windows.ms] Win QVTNET 1.6x - suggestions, questions

barryf@aix01.aix.rpi.edu (Barry B. Floyd) (06/10/91)

news:
- "bit dibble" on screen under "followup" and "more" buttons
- "more" useless - get all article subjects? check for limited disk space?
- if not eliminate "more" button then inc. 4 line display to 5 for sub's
currently "more" adds five new article subjects and the window lists 4.
- display article size and author somewhere in subject line window
- after selecting/reading group, listbox goes to top of list, it would be nice
if the list pointer to the listbox remained at the last group articles read.

FTP:
- "no host" misnomer - "other host" - "manual connection" - beginners (who I
will have to traini) will be confused.
- want menu bar in window (session setup: colors; transfer type such as ASCII,
binary; basic commands such as dir or ls; a windows help index; exit/bye)

TELNET:
- can't use "yellow" for forground, background? (real minor problem)

GENERAL:
- UAE - doesn't close intvec, termin.com no help - MUST REBOOT (real bad)
- Lacking Help menu
- Lacking POP client

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The UAE in and of itself happens often enough to disqualify this product
for further consideration. Upon resolution of this problem Win QVT would
be considered a strong product for its purposes. If the UAE cannot be
resolved in the near future, at least a fix whereby following a UAE one
can opt to terminate/close the intvec session from one of the error dialogues
is necessary (i.e. session...UAE...relaunch...error dialogue...opt to
close old session...continue with launch...).

Otherwise, I would suggest the QVT Net include a Help menu on each menu bar
(for beginners).

To send QVT Net over the top in robustness and features a POP client would
be nice (e-mail with a POP server). Given a POP client I would no longer
have to train people on how to login into a Unix host and run "mail"
(yuk). Providing TELNET, FTP, POP, and NNTP in one package would be ideal
(also have it cohabit with an NFS client package, this would be special).
