[comp.windows.ms] Help with enhanced mode problem?

jimv@hienergy.East.Sun.COM (Jim Vienneau - Sun Microsystems) (06/11/91)

I'm running Windows 3.0 on a 386/33 and a SVGA card with Ahead bios and 512K
video RAM. Everything works fine, except: When I run any DOS application in
full screen mode and then return to windows, the cursor gets messed-up and
screen has lots of little cursor sized black spots in it. When I say "the
cursor is messed-up", I mean it looks like a cancelled stamp (Squiggly lines).
It still functions, you can exit and restart windows and it's fine. Opening
apps in a window works fine. I've tried everything I can think of to no avail.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

This sounds like one of the FEE (Frequently Encountered Errors) for Windows.
You've hit this FEE if your SVGA card has an autosync mode and it isn't
disabled. Windows detests talking to a video card which suddenly changes
modes without having been told to do so by Windows; if this happens Windows
throws up and does strange things.
