Have any of you experienced the following problem? I have a 386sx system with 6.5 meg of Ram. I am running in enhanced mode and am running WordPerfect 5.1 full screen. When I try to access my A & B floppy drives, I get error 25. I don't have any problems accessing the drives from my other programs. The wierd thing is that sometimes WP can see the drives just fine. Although, I can't isolate when... I also have a secondary controller in the machine (Compaticard IV) that drives a 360 K external drive that never gives me a problem. My primary controller is AN IDE FD/HD adapter. I don't have any The only solution I could get for this was (in 386enh mode) was to muck around with the Advanced section of wp.pif. I think I turned off such things as detect idle time and incresed the forground prioity upto 10000 (max). The two controller cards shouldn't have anything to do with it cause I only got one card. It just doesn't happen with WP 5.1; at other random times I have the same problem, both in and out of windows. I have investigated windows, QEMM, himem.sys, clean system, etc., and just about have concluded that there is some problem with the FD controller part of my IDE controller. What brand is yours? I hope the person who posts "Windows 3.0 frequently asked questions" picks up on this. The appendix in the rear of the WP5.1 manual states that you may have intermitent problems with accessing a floppy if you copy your ROM into SHADOW RAM. Run your SETUP program and change as to not copy ROM into SHADOW RAM... The problem disappeared on my machine. If in doubt READ THE BOOK! --- Dan Aksel
