[comp.windows.ms] BlueMax/386Max, SMARTDRV, and PC-KWIK

I recently installed BlueMax on a PS/2-70 and want to pass along two problems I
experienced and how I resolved them. BlueMax is the PS/2 specific version of
386max.

Problem #1: Various Windows files (WIN.COM for example) are erased the first
time Windows starts in 386enh mode after loading SMARTDRV high. The solution
is to force SMARTDRV to load low. The Bluemax documentation says something
about not loading SMARTDRV high but it didn't seem to apply to my
configuration.
It also seemed to imply that if the Bluemax MAXIMIZE utility presents loading
high as the first choice for SMARTDRV you don't have to worry about it.

Problem #2: After I got rid of SMARTDRV and installed PC-KWIK, my system
rebooted every time I exited Windows. The solution was to do as the Bluemax
documentation suggests and let it conigure all extended memory as expanded
excepted for whatever amount is reserved for PC-KWIK to use as extended. This
still makes no sense to me as Bluemax supposedly turns it all back into extended
as soon as Windows starts anyway.

I hope someone finds this useful, or if you care more than I do about Windows
technical details, interesting.
