[net.auto] Love THose Velcro Strips!!

waynez@houxh.UUCP (W.ZAKARAS) (02/25/85)

Just an observation. A few of my friends have had their Escorts
removed as of lately. One was just removed and another in a violent
state < broken car glass > .

In both cases the Escorts were hidden below the car seats but somehow
the theifs knew an Escort was present. How could this be pondered the
victims. Did they have XRAY eyes? No you fools, they know that funny
velcro strip signals an Escort below. My Escort was ripped off a few
years ago the same way. Hidden or not the velcro strip is now almost
a trademark of C.M. My suggestion to all of you out there is use
the visor clip and get that strip off your dashboard.
P.S. In both cases above only the Escort's were removed!!!!

I notice that your return address was AT&T, Holmdel. Did this
happen in the parking lot there or in Holmdel/Lincroft area?

Hopefully some day one of the thieves will be caught by an irate
car owner and suitably tortured and mutilated.

In the meantime, how about putting a map or box of tissues or some
other common automotive clutter on top of the Velcro strips? Thus,
one can continue to use them and human slime will not be able to
see them.

Speaking about Escorts, why is it that they no longer offer the
Escort record? I got mine last summer and there was no mention of it in
the literature.

Any good thief knows the "telltale" signs of a radar detector or
CB -- velcro strips on the dash, or a slide mount under the dash.
A few years ago, during the CB craze, if you had a slide mount under
your dash and left your car in a stinko area, you could count on
finding your trunk lock jimmied.

The solution: SpeedMark of Cambrdige, MA makes this neat little
device called a "Glass Clip" -- an aluminum bracket with two suction
cups on one side and adhesive on the other. Stick it on the rear
portion of your Escort, and then "clip" it to the windshield.
When you take it down, there is absolutely no indication that it
was ever there. I've had one for about six months and love it --
it keeps the Escort within easy reach, leaves no indications that
I have it, and it provides a shock-absorbent mount for the little
guy.

SpeedMark has an 800 number (that I don't remember) but they are
on Alewife Brook Parkway, Cambridge, MA 02138; they do take phone
orders if you want to get one. They run about $21 but are well
worth it, considering that each rip-off costs you $245 plus damage
to your car.
