The MKS Toolkit is a wonderful package that brings the programmer-friendly environment of Unix to DOS. It even allows you to override command.com with Unix' init, Unix' login, and Unix' Korn shell. However, the Korn shell won't allow me to start Windows. It simply runs for a second or two, then drops back to the prompt. There is no problem at all in running Korn shell from Windows. A work-around is to start DOS with command.com and then start Korn shell as another program. Then, when Windows is needed, it's possible to exit back to command.com and start Windows. There must be a better way. Does anyone know one? Or are being a programmer and a user just mutually exclusive? -- Joe Wasik, Pac*Bell, 2600 Camino Ramon, Rm 4E750V, San Ramon, CA (415)823-2422 email: jcwasik@clib.PacBell.COM or [...]!pacbell!clib!jcwasik

On the other hand, if starting Windows from ksh is possible without ever going through command.com, how do we now take advantage of DOS 5.0's features, i.e. loadhigh print, graphics, mirror, etc ? -- Joe Wasik, Pac*Bell, 2600 Camino Ramon, Rm 4E750V, San Ramon, CA (415)823-2422 email: jcwasik@clib.PacBell.COM or [...]!pacbell!clib!jcwasik
