I'm having some trouble with Microsoft Windows 3.0 : I recently installed it on a 386sx, 20MHz, NEAT, 4 MByte RAM, Trident TVGA 8800CS with an Adaptec AHA 1522 SCSI-Controller and a Quantum ProDrive 105s harddisc. And it worked fine. But since I installed a 4096 KByte permanent swapfile (using the win /r swapfile command) the system immediately returns to DOS-Prompt if several applications are started, each requiring lots of memory. In most cases a restart of win is abortet, because some essential files are locked (share?). Also locked tmp-files appear in the /windows/temp directory. After deinstalling the permanent swapfile (using a temporary one) no problem occurs. Who has similiar problems or, better, solutions ? What's wrong (NEAT, SCSI, ...) ? Is the permanent swap-file really much more effective ? Helmut Duschinger, student of computer science, Erlangen, Germany.
