[comp.windows.ms] CorelDraw! 2.0 crashing

heygel@rutishauser.inf.ethz.ch (Reto Heygel) (06/20/91)

Is it a known problem that CorelDraw! 2.0 crashes from time to time -
maybe while working with many text objects with different fonts?

Very often I get an "Application Error" (on my German windows:
"Unbehebbarer Fehler im Anwendungsprogramm") - and very often I
even can't get out of this message box and have to restart.

Yes, this is a known fact.

Corel crashes for me if I select Print, then select Printer Setup
from the large menu which appears with all the various printing
options.

I don't blame Corel too much; their technical support staff helped
me work around a different Corel/Windows bug and were altogether
very pleasant. Most of the problems in Windows are related to
inadequacies in the operating system and development tools; they're
both extremely demanding of a spineless OS, DOS. These problems
should start to disappear in a year or two as updates (and OS/2 2.0)
become available and more mature.

Windows is kind of like a sexy date which turns you on immediately
but shows its shortcomings the more it is used (Ever try to do
something clever like using WFNBoss to make an ATM font and use
it in Word? Oh well, at least Microsoft seems to have stopped
beating up on Adobe for the time being.) and the greater the
demands you place on it.

Nonetheless, we should all learn something from Microsoft and
companies like Corel when it comes to marketing; better product
introductions have never been done, IMHO, touche!
