You might talk to Dennis Wong - he is their product manager for all Unix
and related things. He should be able to point you in the right
direction. His phone# is 415/962-7237. Good luck.

Re: your question about bootable diagnostic disks, here is a shell script
to be run by root that will create a bootable floppy with the dgmon
program on it. This will allow you to diagnose an unbootable system.

============================  cut  here  =============================
# This is taken from AT&T Hardware Support News Spring 1987 issue"
# This shell script will make a bootable diagnostics floppy for 3B2's
echo "You must be superuser to run this script!"
echo "Insert a blank floppy in the drive"
echo "Press CR when ready"
read junk
echo "Now formatting floppy as a bootable"
fmtflop -v /dev/rdsk/c0d0s6
echo "Now installing boot files on floppy"
newboot /lib/olboot /lib/mboot /dev/rdsk/c0d0s7
echo "Now making a filesystem on the floppy"
mkfs /dev/rdsk/c0d0s5 1404 1 18
labelit /dev/rdsk/c0d0s5 dgn
echo "The floppy will now be mounted on /mnt and the diagnostic programs\
\nwill be copied onto it."
mount /dev/dsk/c0d0s5 /mnt
find /dgmon /dgn /filledt -print | cpio -pdmuv /mnt
umount /dev/dsk/c0d0s5
echo "Your floppy is now a bootable diagnostics disk!!"
============================  cut  here  =============================
This script will work on 3b2-300/310/400/500/600/700. Enjoy.

RE: your question about 3b2-300/310 hard drives
The internal hard drives in 3b2-300's , 3b2-310's and 3b2-400's are all
standard ST506 interface drives similiar to the units used in most
PC's. They are somewhat faster and larger than those used in most PC's
and I don't think you will find many PC's with CDC brand drives. If
you wanted to use third party drives, it is possible but first you must get
the "3B2 Computer Maintainance Reference Manual" which includes the hard drive
formatting and testing program called "idtools". This package is only
useful for those ST506 internal drives of the 300/310/400 and does not help
with the newer SCSI based 500/600/700 machines. The AT&T comcode for the
Maintainance Reference Manual is 305-395.
