[comp.archives] Clarification

odin@ucscb.ucsc.edu (Jon Granrose) (03/12/89)

I was hoping not to have to waste net space with this but after
receiving the 15th request for the comp-archives-database, I got a little
miffed you might say.

[I perfectly well understand you. I constantly get
misaddressed mail for the server. I have started
discarding it. I hope anyone else who gets these does
the same. Carelessness should not be rewarded.

On the other hand, perhaps I'm doing something that is
		causing people to be mislead?

Maybe others who run servers would tell us of their
		experiences?

Please do NOT mail me asking for the comp-archives-database index.
Apparently people thought I was supplying the index not requesting the index.

The following was not me speaking but twwwells:

	>[You might request an index of sites from my server. Send
	>your request to twwells!comp-archives-database with the
	>message:
	>
	> path odin@ucscb.UCSC.EDU
	> send index
	>
	>You should also keep in mind that most UNIX software works on
	>all varieties of UNIX; much of the rest can be made to work
	>by making minor changes.
	>
	>tww]

Thank you for your time.

Jon
