[comp.archives] Commercial UUCP packages, should I report them?

comparc@twwells.uucp (comp.archives) (04/26/89)

When I posted the UUCP clone report, I excluded commercial packages from the
listing, in spite of several people's desires that they be included. My
feeling is that comp.archives is about freely distributable software, and
that commercial packages don't have a place here.

What do you think? Since I've got plenty of support for including them, you
don't need to speak to me in favor of the idea. What I want to know is do you
have any serious objections?

If I don't get any significant objections, I will then ask for information
about commercial UUCP packages. Please don't send me info till I ask for it,
OK?

The response was as expected: comp.archives should be restricted to freely
distributable stuff. So, shareware is OK, other commercial stuff isn't.

Here's what I'll do: if you know of a commercially available UUCP, let me
know. I'll collect the information, remove any advertising and hype, and
create a message to be posted on comp.mail.uucp. Of course, I'll also add a
pointer the comp.archives message. :-)
