[comp.archives] can listserv's be accessed off bitnet?

I was trying to construct an article showing the available
listserv's on bitnet. I sent a message to listserv@bitnic.bitnet
to get the list and got no response back.

So, two questions: can I, not on bitnet, do this? If so, how; if
not, would someone volunteer to send me the help info and the list
of listserv's? (NB: volunteer, don't send it right away!)
