To all you net-freaks out there, I would be most gratefull for some help of all kinds. My main interest is Machintosh computers and I have been reading the various news articles with great interest. I have found an archive site in the UK (lancs.pdsoft) and can log in to it, copy files and all that using FTP stuff and all that. I would now like to access the various archive sites on different networks but I just can't seem to make it work. Apparently I cant use FTP, so I will have to rely on file-servers. I have tried "LISTSERV%earn.irlearn" and "FILESERV%earn.irlearn" a couple of times, both with no response. I have also "comp-archives-server@twells.com" a couple of times and again no response. I have also sent mail to "postmaster@stanford.edu" (it may have had sumex-aim) in it I can't remember) but again no response. I started to wonder if my mail was getting lost, but no, I tried "ps-file-server@adobe.com" and received it back saying Host unknown. Oh well you can't have everything, at least my mail was getting out and back. My mail had reached decwrl.dec.com before it was sent back so it was ok gateway hopping and therefore I don't think thats any problem. I just don't know whats going wrong. Perhaps the returned file is getting lost on the way back, but surely not, I haven't got any control over that and if that did happen I may as well give up. I would be most grateful for any info you could mail me hopefully showing me where I'm going wrong or how you do it. Please help me for I am getting rather confused and desparate. many thank nigel ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * Nigel "nbb@uk.ac.essex.ese" -JANET Network | Disclaimer : It wasn'nt me, * * University of Essex - SouthEast of England | I didn't even know about it! * ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
