RFC 1138: Title: Mapping between X.400(1988) / ISO 10021 and RFC 822 Author: S. Kille Mailbox: S.Kille@CS.UCL.AC.UK Pages: 92 Characters: 191,029 pathname: RFC:RFC1138.TXT This RFC suggests an electronic mail protocol mapping for the Internet community and UK Academic Community, and requests discussion and suggestions for improvements. This memo does not specify an Internet standard. This memo updates RFCs 822, 987, and 1026. This document describes a set of mappings which will enable interworking between systems operating the CCITT X.400 (1988) Recommendations on Message Handling Systems / ISO IEC 10021 Message Oriented Text Interchange Systems (MOTIS), and systems using the RFC 822 mail protocol or protocols derived from RFC 822. The approach aims to maximize the services offered across the boundary, while not requiring unduly complex mappings. The mappings should not require any changes to end systems. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. RFCs can be obtained via FTP from NIC.DDN.MIL, with the pathname RFC:RFCnnnn.TXT (where "nnnn" refers to the number of the RFC). Login with FTP, username ANONYMOUS and password GUEST. The NIC also provides an automatic mail service for those sites which cannot use FTP. Address the request to SERVICE@NIC.DDN.MIL and in the subject field of the message indicate the RFC number, as in "Subject: RFC nnnn". Requests for special distribution should be addressed to either the author of the RFC in question, or to NIC@NIC.DDN.MIL. Unless specifically noted otherwise on the RFC itself, all RFCs are for unlimited distribution. Submissions for Requests for Comments should be sent to POSTEL@ISI.EDU. Requests to be added to or deleted from this distribution list should be sent to RFC-REQUEST@NIC.DDN.MIL. Joyce K. Reynolds
