This message announces the archivists mailing list. The charter of the mailing list is to explore the problems and opportunities involved in running an archive site that distributes freely copyable software packages. My impetus for creating the list is to promulgate a standard description for packages. If the descriptions get used enough, we will establish a defacto standard. Submissions go to archivists@image.soe.clarkson.edu, requests for addition/deletion go to listserv@image.soe.clarkson.edu. If you don't know how this listserv works, send it a message with single word "help". Feel free to invite anyone else who may be interested to join.
