Sorry. It was pointed out to me that some states do not post this minimum speed. I was going on my experience from states that I have traveled in. -------------------------------------------- Brian Millham AT & T Information Systems Denver, Co. ...!inhp4!drutx!review

You usually see the sign right next to the SPEED 55 sign reading MINIMUM SPEED 45. BTW, get out your magnifying glass sometime and notice under the SPEED 55 signs, in tiny print, it says "when conditions permit". -- tektronix!tekred!ronbe _____ Support Bacteria - Ron Bemis / o o \ It's the only Tektronix | \___/ | culture some Redmond, OR \_____/ people have!

Many of the interstates have a minimum of 40 MPH. The Mass. pike (I-90) comes to mind. So does I-91 in Connecticut. I haven't seen any since moving out west. Bob Kunz {ihnp4!hplabs!hp-pcd, fluke, teltone}!hplsla!kunz

Most highways in California do not have minimum posted speeds. However, I believe you can be cited for driving too slow (less than about 40-45 mph --I don't have a copy of the California Vehicle Code handy) if con- ditions permitted you to go at a "normal" speed. Of course, during rush hour on Los Angeles freeways, top speeds are typically under 30 mph, if indeed they get that high! (no smiley face) Several years ago, while visiting southern British Columbia (yes, I know the original poster only asked about the U.S.), I saw a sign on a free- way onramp to the effect that vehicles incapable of a minimum speed of 60 km/h (37.3 mph) were not allowed on the freeway. -- -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Rich Wales University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Computer Science Department 3531 Boelter Hall Los Angeles, California 90024 // USA -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Phone: (213) 825-5683 // +1 213 825 5683 ARPANET: wales@UCLA-LOCUS.ARPA UUCP: ...!{cepu,ihnp4,trwspp,ucbvax}!ucla-cs!wales -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- "UCLA" is a registered trademark of The Regents of the University of California -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
