Hello,
The latest version of nntplink is now available. It incorporates
several bug fixes and a couple of improvements. Some of the improvements
include:

o It only opens the news article when necessary. (ie: if you use
the "new" style of batchfiles which store both the path and the
mesgid then nntplink will first check to see if the remote host
would like the article before it opens it).

o If you are running C-News then you can do away with batchfiles
completely. I've modified it so that it can get all the necessary
information from the log file (with one small patch to relaynews -
to incorporate a new flag) thereby cutting down on the majority of
the disk i/o's that are required by batchfiles (relaynews normally
has to open a batchfile, append to it, close it and print the sysname
to the logfile, then nntplink would open it, read each line, close it
and unlink it - now relaynews simply prints the sysname to the logfile
and nntplink reads the logfile watching for its sysname).

o It now changes it's working directory to the SPOOL_DIR.

o It now has an option to cause nntplink to exit if the link has been
idle for more than "n" seconds as opposed to simply closing the link
after being idle (this also available).

It is currently available via anonymous ftp on shape.mps.ohio-state.edu
[128.146.7.200] in the /pub/nntplink directory.

There is a mailing list for people who use nntplink. Patches and discussion
will be sent to this list. If you wish to be added to the list, just drop
a note to:
