[net.auto] big block Chevy vs Mopar 440 - no contest

>>There are stupid comments and then there are stupid comments. Jeff, you
>>sound like one of those guys I race a Baylands Raceway each weekend. You

Hey, calm down. Who ever said anything about 9's? Not me. Transmission
blowing up? Twisted frame? You sure read a lot more into my letter than
what was there. The comment I made about the ZL-1 Vette was only one
small part of a much broader topic. I had no intention of elaborating
on how much effort is required to make such a swap. What I said is true
in principal, and you should not have jumped to the conclusion that
I think no further modifications would be necessary to race such a car.
In fact, I said nothing about racing at all!

Is that right? Well I've got a 427 that will rearrange your doors
which I drive to work everyday. Send me mail and we will arrange a time
and place to get it on. We'll put the money in escrow, and if the price is
right I`ll drive up to Berkley from San Jose. I don't think for a milli-
second you seriously think your slow-par can beat even a mediocre running
rat, so I'm sure you won't respond to this challenge.

As far as your weird ideas about torque and how it relates to racing,
just keep on thinking that horsepower is meaningless. Torque is
meaningful ONLY if the RPM is specified. Guess what torque at a
particular RPM is.... That's right - horsepower! (try taking a physics
course, Shelby. You would be amazed at how wonderful it is when you
understand what you are talking about.)

Why don't you guys pick some neutral territory halfway between, say Fremont
Raceway on grudge night. I'd love to come and watch.

Our last street 440 car is in many pieces, as would be expected during
winter. When it is finally back together, hopefully in about a two
months, we would love to race your 427. You'll have to meet us at
Baylands Raceway in Fremont and be ready to put up a minimum of three
digits (with the 1st number >= 2).

To give you an idea of what you've gotten yourself into, this car is
NOT a street car anymore. The only thing factory orignal is the sheet-
metal. It's a full cage, full frame drag car with '68 GTX sheetmetal.
The rear suspension is ladder-bar, with 5.13 gears and 14-32 wrinkle-
wall slicks. We plan to run it in Pro Gas competition which is a
9.90 index. I'll let you know when it's ready and I'll give you your
chance to "rearrange my doors".

I guess we'll let the race decide who knows what they're talking about,
Good luck.

P.S.	When we race, we'll probably have the old street motor in to dial
in the chassis. When the car was in street trim last year,
the car only turned low 11's.
