Hi. Some time ago I sent a note to the list introducing the
NYSERNet/PSI White Pages Pilot Project (a large, distributed white pages
service spanning multiple administrations). I am pleased to announce
that we have added a new service for anonymous use: X window access to
the White Pages.

The "xwp" application displays the portions of the white pages you find
"interesting", allowing you to both search the white pages and browse:
by clicking on an entry, you can find out about it's children or about
the entry itself.

A PSI Technical Report is available, use anonymous FTP to host
nisc.nyser.net and retrieve four files from directory pilot/ps/. They
are

	xwp-1.ps
	xwp-2.ps
	xwp-3.ps
	xwp-4.ps

You should be able to print these files on a PostScript. (If you don't
have FTP-connectivity to the Internet, you are out of luck, you can not
retrieve the technical report.)
///////
Here's how to try it out:

0. If your X display has access control enabled, you do:

	xhost +wp.psi.com

1. You telnet from an window with terminal type "xterm" to wp.psi.com
and login as fred.

2. You will be asked if X window access is desired. If so, you enter
the name of your X display. This should be something like
IP-address:0.0, e.g.,

	192.33.44.20:0.0

3. The telnet process will disappear and an "xwp" window will appear on
your display.
///////
Caveats:

1. Report any problems to wpp-manager@nisc.nyser.net

2. If you want to join the wpp-users discussion group, send a note to
wpp-request@nisc.nyser.net

3. If you don't have IP-connectivity to the Internet, you are out of
luck, you can not try out this service.

Have fun!
