Tsock, a socket testing/ network performance testing application, is
available for anonymous ftp from sol.ctr.columbia.edu [128.59.64.40]
as pub/net/tsock.tar.Z.
Beginning as "ttcp", a public domain socket-test program written by
Terry Slattery & Mike Muuss at BRL, it's essentially been completely
rewritten. Like ttcp, tsock opens a socket (as a transmitter or a
reader) and shoves data into/reads data from it; but it includes the
capabilities to:
o Spread the data over multiple child processes using the same
socket
o Write data in user-specified buffer sizes (and read data in
user-specified buffer sizes if the underlying network permits this)
o Send/receive data simultaneously over the same socket (full duplex)
o Align the data on various memory boundaries
o Randomize things like buffer sizes and data
o Send/receive streams or datagrams
(some of these may be in ttcp also; if so, my aplogies to the authors).
And thanks to seth at columbia for providing the space.
