[net.auto] Please tell me more about the new Lotus Super-Seven III

djw@lanl.ARPA (03/30/85)

I read a recent edition of Car and Driver and it contained an article
about the Lotus Super Seven. At the end of the article there was the
incredible statement that the Super III is back in production in the
US. A company in Florida sells the completed Seven for just under
$10,000.00. That, if true, should just about do it for me, a Seven
cheaper that a Toyota/Honda/Stupidroo... How'm I gonna act?

For those of you still here who don't understand what I'm talking about,
The Lotus Super Seven is the car that Patrick Mcguen? ( of "The Prisoner"
tv series ) drives up in at the beinning of each episode.

The Lotus was originally sold as a "kit" car for sports car buffs. It
sold for $1,600.00 in the box. You assemble it and scare your neighbors.
It was an all-out race car, you had to take the top off to get in, it
didn't have any doors.

If any of you out there in Florida or Coventry could comment? I've already
almost lined up the financing. If I'm mistaken does anyone out there
know where I can get a good/used/inexpensive Morgan? I'd also be interested
in comments from others who've had experience with these beasties. There
are supposed to be a lot more of them in England than ever made it to our
shores. ( about 500 crossed the ocean - sez the article ).

I think this little Seven should certainly be able to outperform those
new bathtub Porsches ( looks a lot like a strung out Hudson Terraplane ).
