A few thoughts on tailgaters, twits in general, and the 55 jive. This is prompted by a drive I took yesterday on the Garden State Parkway (For those of you in the civilized world, "Parkway" is New Jerseyian for "Toll Expressway"). I suspect that traffic fatalities could be reduced *MUCH* more effectively (on expressways, at least) by having the cops in unmarked cars and concentrating on ticketing the tailgaters, the idiots who drive in the left lane even when not passing, and the lane dodgers. These seem to be the real causers of accidents. A high speed limit just exacerbates the troubles caused by the above. I'd much rather see police effort targeted here, but then, they wouldn't have those fancy electronic toys to play with. All the cop would have to is drive along and wait for people to pull that crap on him, and zing! Boy, do I sometimes wish I had the authority. BTW, my mother-in-law (who else) is one of the worst offenders. "I'm doing 55. I can be in the left lane if I want. They shouldn't be trying to pass me." -- ". . . and shun the frumious Bandersnatch." Robert Neinast (ihnp4!ho95b!ran) AT&T-Bell Labs
