Archive-site: foobar.colorado.edu [128.138.243.105] Archive-directory: /pub/SeeTeX Reposted-by: emv@math.lsa.umich.edu (Edward Vielmetti) Anyone using 'xtex' from the X11R4 tape should really upgrade to the more recent version (2.16.1), available from foobar.colorado.edu, in pub/SeeTeX. Pick up the tar labeled SeeTeX-2.16.1.tar.Z. This version provides numerous (poorly documented) features and enhancements, and a performance improvement, particularly for the ``tape measure'' on mouse-1 (did the X11R4 version have that? Dunno) and performance on color workstations. It was gawdawful slow on color sparcs. That's the problem with using a monochrome DECstation with X -- it's hard to tell what's slow on other machines. The directiry Bdf-85dpi contains BDF files for most TeX fonts at 85dpi (about normal Sun resolution) at 1000 and 1440 mag (i.e., the default mags). There is an installation manual. It requests that anyone who knows how to install fonts under OpenWindows please tell me, so it can be put in the install manual. No one has done this. If someone figures it out, please write it in LaTeX to match the directions in the manual & send it to me.
