Could someone tell me how it is that the 85 Corvette is so fast when it has only 230 HP. I mean, with all this talk of 427's whith 400 HP (wow!) - I mean, how fast where they? --------------------------------- Christopher Kay (1.5 months and counting) - CS Dept., SUNY at Buffalo ARPA & CSNET: kramar%Buffalo@CSNET-RELAY UUCP: {[bbncca, dual, burdvax, rocksvax, rocksanne, watmath, decvax]!sunybcs!kramar} "Nothing is forgotten or forgiven, when it's your last time around, I got stuff running 'round my head That I just can't live down."

The 400 HP you speak of is an old hp rating that was based at the end of the transmission. The new hp ratings are based at the wheels and the old ones produced much higher ratings because of this. Some other points: Auto makes often inflated their ratings to increase sales. The older corvettes probably WERE faster due to less restrictions on emissions. The new corvettes strength is in its aerodynamic shape and engineering. This many times did not go into consideration in the 'horsepower days'. All they wanted then was HORSEPOWER ! Any other comments ?
