Listen to this close one. Today, I was going to make a right turn out of my condo lot on to the street. I looked to the right and saw a bicycle about 30' away and a car about 20' behind that. I look to the left and it's clear. I start going and I see that the car is now in MY lane passing the bike. Luckily, I was not going so fast that I was not able to do a screecher and stop in time. If I had not stopped were I did, the other car would have had three choices (it was going too fast to stop): hit me head on, swerve and knock off the bike, or run into a ditch (of course, picking off a few mail boxes and street signs and maybe a fire hydrant). This seems to be the fault of car, however, it promps me to express the following: How many people out there are anti-bicycle? How many are pro-bicycle? How many ride bikes nearly as much is cars? Some of you may be familiar with one of the auto magazine's annual anti-bicycle issues, (comes out every spring) where they say things like, "Come to think of it, I don't LIKE people who ride bicycles. I don't even KNOW people who ride bicycles." Or stuff like "Usually, people who ride bicycles dress funny and eat wierd food and live in wierd places and are probably against national defense spending, want to save the whales, etc......" Mind you, we are talking about riding bicycles for purposes other than an afternoon in the park. We are talking about riding bikes as a main (or significant) means of transportation. NO FLAMES, PLEASE. I did not even tell you what I think. Mail to me your oppinion and I will post summary later, and if you have an ammusing story about bicycles, post it to the net. That is why I started this topic. --------------------------------- Christopher Kay (1 month and counting) - CS Dept., SUNY at Buffalo ARPA & CSNET: kramar%Buffalo@CSNET-RELAY UUCP: {[bbncca, dual, burdvax, rocksvax, rocksanne, watmath, decvax]!sunybcs!kramar} "Nothing is forgotten or forgiven, when it's your last time around, I got stuff running 'round my head That I just can't live down."
