Lately I am having some problems shifting gears on my 1983 Nissan Stanza. When the car is cold the transmission shifts very crisply. After about 20-30 minutes of driving it the shifting gets harder and stickier. Feels like trying to shift a gearbox filled with thick glue. The problem seems to go away after the engine cools off, but returns again after it warms up. Can anybody provide some suggestions as to what this may be and how it could be fixed ? *** HERE'S ONE FOR THE MYTHICAL LINE EATER *** It sounds like you have a problem similar to the one I had in my '81 Honda Civic. The shifter bushing is located right above either the exhaust pipe or the catalytic converter. The hotter this area gets, the harder it is to shift. Have your mechanic check this first. If it is the same problem, your talking about a $30 repair versus a major transmission repair. Good Luck. Mickey Levine decvax!cca!mickey
