Ghostscript version 2.1.1 is now available on prep. This is the
version that will be included on the soon-to-be-made GNU master tape.

2.1.1 is 2.1 plus some very minor bug fixes (primarily to pacify
various compilers and operating systems) plus a change to make the
behavior of the scanner regarding \ in strings consistent with the
newer Adobe specification (i.e., no special handling for \ when
reading tokens from strings as opposed to files). This is consistent
with Display P*stScr*pt and newer Adobe printers; it is not
consistent with old printers. It is quite an obscure point and is
not likely to affect any P*stScr*pt files generated by ordinary
applications.

For the first time, the 2.1.1 fileset includes the diffs from the
previous release (2.1). If anyone attempts to upgrade 2.1 to 2.1.1
by applying the diffs using `patch', please let me know what happens.
I wasn't able to do this myself, apparently because my development
site doesn't have the most recent version of `patch', so I'm not sure
I made the diffs right.

Note also that starting with 2.1.1, the tar file puts the files in a
directory named gs<something> rather than just gs. For 2.1.1, it is
gs211. Hopefully this will help keep versions straight. I hope to
improve the directory situation a good deal further in 2.2.
