What's going on with the bumpers of new cars these days?
I have a Honda Civic 1984, 4 door Sedan. My daughter (weight 50 lbs)
climbed up on the trunk of the car yesterday and used the rear bumper
as a step. The next thing I know is that the bumper is sagging about
1/4 inch from the car body (it was flush earlier). Also, when I wash
the car and wipe it, I can feel the thin-ness of the sheet metal
on the hood and the roof.
Otherwise the car is running fine.

In '84 or '85 the regulation for bumpers was changed from 5MPH to 3 1/2 MPH. -------------------------------------------- Brian Millham AT & T Information Systems Denver, Co. ...!inhp4!drutx!review

I think it is because of the new standards for bumpers. The bumpers of a few years ago had to withstand a collision at 5mph. The new ones only 2.5 mph.
