+ From: man@bocar.UUCP (M Nevar) + >Didn't someone (Steven Spielberg) do a movie on this? + + Yes. It was a made-for-tv movie that came out in the early seventies. + It was called Duel! At the end, the driver kills the trucker. + It was a great movie. Last year, some studio tried to cash-in on + Spielberg's popularity by releasing it to theatres, but I don't + think it caught on. + + Mark Right. The title of the movie was DUEL. It starred Dennis Weaver as the beleaguered motorist. The story & screenplay were by Richard Matheson, who supposedly based the movie on an actual incident he was involved in while crossing the Arizona desert some years previously. And, yes, it was a good movie (most of Matheson's work is VERY good --- he did the 'ex-nut-case on airliner SEES gremlin shredding the plane' episode (sorry. can't remember actual title) in TWILIGHT ZONE - THE MOVIE (w/ John Lithgow) and the original TWILIGHT ZONE (w/William Shatner)). But I digress ... However, Dennis Weaver did NOT kill the trucker. The trucker killed himself by driving his rig through a roadblock and over a cliff during his blind pursuit of Mr. Weaver, who was not in the least sorry to see the idiot get his Just Reward. Sooooooo, the next time some maniacal ignoroid glues his grill to your rear bumper, just head for the nearest cliff and try for an encore performance ... Tony Lawrence(tony@ncsuvm.bitnet)
