You could also try (public-domain) 'Remind' which was posted to
alt.sources. You can ftp it from alfred.ccs.carleton.ca (134.117.1.1)
in pub/remind-2.2.06.tar.Z.

REMIND is a replacement for the Unix 'calendar' program. Remind
is much more sophisticated than calendar, and incorporates the following
features:
o Flexible date specifications
o Intelligent handling of holidays
o The ability to run programs at specified dates and times, as well
as display messages
o The ability to issue timed reminders which 'pop up' onto the screen
before meetings, appointments, etc.
o The ability to remind you of events as far in advance as you desire
o The ability to produce a printed calendar with reminders automatically
filled in.
o Convenient text substitution capabilities within the body of a reminder
