This is an experimental setup which shall permit (primarily swiss) researchers to gain access to most recent information via computer networks. The data files are stored in a single directory, each entry is a file. Please do NOT use the 'ls' command, otherwise up to 8000 directory entries will list on your screen. The directory biology/EMBnet/Xembl contains a file called 'xembl.list' which contains all entries as title line, accession number, and entry code. This file is plain ascii text and can be searched with any text processor to find the correct entry. As another experiment , the entire collection of entries is available as uuencoded VAX/VMS Backup Save set which contains all entries formatted in GCG6.0/PSQ compatible format, including the references. The entire EMBL release 25 entries are stored in the /biology/EMBnet/REL25 directory in GCG6.0/PSQ compatible format. The sequence data are available only. Reference data are not included. Files are separated as delivered from EMBL by their taxonomic divisions. Last not least the biology/database directory contains minor and secondary databases which are updated and partially maintained by Amos Bairoch, Geneva. # DISCLAIMER: # This server is not intended to replace, to compete with, or compromise in # any other way the NETSERV@EMBL of EMBL. Its main purpose is to serve swiss # biologists within the EMBnet project. Access information: bioftp.unibas.ch, 131.152.1.2 user anonymous, passwd your email address.
