I have a few questions about auto alarms:

  (a) what types qualify for insurance discounts

  (b) what does it mean when it says passive

  (c) which systems are easy to install by me with a drill and wire clippers?

  Thanks!

	depends on your insurance co.

	rearms itself automatically.
e.g. you get in your car and puch the magic button so
you can start your car. When you get to your destination
and stop the car the system rearms itself without you having
to do anything. Ususally there is some delay so you can
get out of the car without setting off an alarm.

most of the cheaper ones (< $150). By the way, these are
also the ones that are easy to remove by an amature thief.
If it dont have a Chapman type lock, forget it.

passive arming means, the dirver does not have to turn on a switch
to set it off, just turn off the engine.

surely you are not interested in quality of the system
by asking this question.

I must commend you for recommending the Chapman lock.

1)	First of all how much did they pay you for it !!!

2)	If you want to recommend something you should always make
sure you know what you are talking about.

The Chapman lock is not very effective. I have heard of many
people getting their car stolen and the Chapman lock is just cut right
out of the car. A couple of years ago Consumers Reports rated car
security systems (not just alarms) and the Chapman lock came out near
the bottom of the heap. As a matter of fact the top rated "alarm" was
a device that sells for less than $100 and is a passive devices.

In the Big Apple everyone has Chapman locks and more cars are
stolen in NY than any other place. It just goes to show you what a
little advertising can do for even the biggest piece of junk !!!
